Journal Entry 1 by tqd from Sydney, New South Wales Australia on Saturday, September 20, 2008
Donated to my bookcrossing addiction by my parents. From the back of the book (all typos mine): A narrative in the great Cronin tradition, this is a stirring chronicle, set in Scotland, of Laurence Carroll as he grows from childhood to adult years. The tale of his struggles - early illness, a widowed mother, poverty, the uncles who try to help him, and the women who have such an unhappy effect upon him, is told with warm humour and with that intense and sympathetic realism for which the author is internationally known.

This book was given to me by my client - I am a social support worker - after our fortnightly outing. His eyes are not the best, so he passed it to me. I am now on holidays and enjoying it as I like the period of this book CAUGHT IN NEWTOWN, SYDNEY NEW SOUTH WALES AUSTRALIA
