Journal Entry 1 by concertina8 from Wien Bezirk 13 - Hietzing, Wien Austria on Wednesday, September 17, 2008
blurp from the back: An old man sits in a room, with a single door and window, a bed, a desk and a chair. Each day he awakes with no memory, unsure of whether or not he is locked in the room. Then a middle-aged woman called Anna enters and talks of pills and treatment, but also of love and promises. Who is this 'Mr Blank', and what s his fate? What does Anna represent from his past - and will he have enough time to ever make sense of the clues that arise? What I like about this story is that we know as much (or rather, little) as 'Mr. Blank' throughout most of the book. It all falls into place in the end, but only for the reader and not the protagonist. This will go to Abu tonight.

Journal Entry 6 by NICNIC2 from St Andrews, Scotland United Kingdom on Friday, December 12, 2008
I just love Paul Auster's writing, and these lovely faber and faber paperback editions. This was another good read but I'm slightly confused by the ending - is he a character in a story? is he actually being held captive by people he has hurt? I didn't really feel much sympathy for Mr Blank for some reason and I found the unfinished story intriguing :) Just looking for someone else to send this to. Thanks for letting me read it!

Journal Entry 9 by Winterson from Peacehaven, East Sussex United Kingdom on Wednesday, February 11, 2009
I enjoyed this book too. I loved the idea of the answers being hidden from us as they were from Mr Blank, not knowing who or what to trust. It all fell into place for me right at the end and I was impressed. A clever book that explores a great concept. NicNic2, if you're still feeling a little let down by the ending, think about the title and what a scriptorium is. It's great when it all clicks into place and everything makes sense. Thanks to all who passed this along so that I had the opportunity to read it. Will re-release soon :)
