7 out of 10

I found this book in a little cafe in Wellington - Martha's Pantry - and was immediately attracted to it as I have traveled to Kuching and gone up river and stayed in Dyak long houses, where human skulls hang from the rafters - so this was much fun to read the history of the area and the English rajahs - while I was in the middle of reading the book, friends from Kuala Lumpur were passing through Wellington. We spent an evening together talking about Sarawak as the husband had grown up in Kuching - so history came alive through the book

I released it in Havelock North, New Zealand at an old folks rest home where I am hoping some visitor looking for an escapist read will grab it and travel back in time and place
