Be careful what you wish for. A small town librarian lives a quiet life without much excitement. One day, she mutters an idle wish and, while standing in her house, is struck by lightning.....

I grabbed this from someones rather large TBR pile on the east coast when I was visiting there over christmas. I am a bit of an Alice Hoffman fan and am planning to start reading it tonight.

What a crappy book! I kept reading this book in hope that it would improve but it just didn't, stupid, stupid, stupid. To say I was disappointed would be an understatement - Hoffman is usually quite an enlightening author with thought provoking topics and twists but not this time. I would not recommend this book to anyone. No idea what I should do with it now....... wild release it into the ocean perhaps????

A bit of a fairy tale. Very easy to read but a bit too meandering for my taste. I did like her fixation on the Grimm's fairy tales - the original & the best in all their gory detail -, none of this Andersen's sweetness and light. It was a relief when she started looking outside herself, stopped contemplating her navel & realised that everything wasn't about her - in the last couple of pages. But real fairy tales aren't all about good little girls... are they?

Found at the Crown Hotel. It sounds... pretty bad, actually. Thanks anyway.
