Wonder Bread & Ecstasy: The Life and Death of Joey Stefano
2 journalers for this copy...
I've been wanting to read this for a while now, so I finally broke down and ordered it from Barnes and Noble. Can't wait to read it.
What a sad sad life this man lived. I was the first person in my small town to purchase a copy of Madonna's "Sex", and was captivated by Stephano's beauty instantly. So from there I collected various photo spreads and videos of his spanning his career. I was saddened when news broke of his death. Years later, it was very interesting to look back on my own roll in the sex industry (without consumers, the products won't be necessary, right?). I wasn't crazy about Isherwood's style however. He tended to go back and forth in time a bit too often, many times without you even noticing it. Even so, it was a great read, and had some interesting background information for both Iacona (Stephano), and other big names in the biz like Chi Chi Larue. I wouldn't say his life was "tragic" (IMHO, tragedy befalls on the innocent), but it was definitely a very sad existence. Those he needed help and guidance from early on in life and in his career failed him, and those who offered genuine help towards the end were a bit too late.
