7 out of 10

I have ended up with 2 copies of this book. This is number 467 on the 1001 Books list.
I have read a couple of his other books, including In Cold Blood.

I had put this off because I love the film, and I had heard that it differed wildly from the book. I did enjoy it though,
Holly Golightly on paper is like the Holly on screen, a mixed up, strange girl. Told through the eyes of her neighbour, a struggling writer. The narrator falls in love with Holly, but there is more to her than initially apparent. Parties, play boys, and of course, Tiffany's, this is a classic.
The book also contains a Christmas story as the last short story.

To be donated to the 1001-Library.

This was a great read. I finished it in 2 sessions of reading. I found it quite sad but almost exhilirating. It leaves you feeling a bit cheated but in a nice way. I wonder what really happened to Holly? Easy reading but beautiful language. Highly recommended.

I read this last night in one sitting, and can't work out what to think of it. Being constantly thrown off whatever I thought was the truth made me feel all topsy-turvy! More than anything, I feel very sad for Holly.

I'm glad I read this, now I can watch the movie! And I will duly return this to the 1001-library shelf. :) Thank you again, soffitta1, and I'm sorry I held onto it for so long.

Thoroughly enjoyed this slightly dark and quirky story. Wonderfully told from the viewpoint of the aspiring writer who occupied an apartment in the same brownstone in the East Seventies as the intriguingly named young lady Holly Golightly. I too will now watch the movie with Audrey Hepburn, not expecting quite the same ending though. I also loved the final story A Christmas Memory. Beautiful descriptions.

To be honest, I found this quite dull and I wound up plodding through it towards the end. But its another one off the list! Returning to the library now.
