From back:

John is cool, practical, and deliberate- the polar opposite of dreamy Arlyn- yet the two are drawn powerfully together even when it is clear they are bound to bring each other grief. Their marriage traces a map no one should follow, leading them and their children to a house made of glass in the Connecticut countryside, to the avenues of Manhattan, and to the blue waters of Long Island Sound. Glass breaks, love hurts, and like all families, John and Arlyn's makes its own rules. Ultimately, it falls to their grandson, Will, to walk a path of ruin and redemption in order to solve the emotional puzzle of his family.

When I pick up a book by Hoffman I prepare myself because I know it will most likely be one I won't want to put down until I have to. Hoffman's writing has an intoxicating rhythm. Lyrical, and hauntingly beautiful.

"Skylight Confessions" did not disappoint me. I was immediately drawn to the characters and absorbed in the story. A very good book.

Like WingedMan I found myself unable to put this book down until it was finished. I just couldn't bear to wait until tomorrow or the next day to find out the fates of Arlie and John's family.

This book is ultimately about true love. It is about making mistakes and learning from them and knowing which path is right. It deals with difficult family relationships and often made me grateful for my own choices and those of my family. Alice Hoffman has yet to disappoint me with her characters and writing style.

I woke up this morning to a grey sky, soft rain and distant thunder. The perfect time to grab my cup of coffee and start this book. Mesmeric. I have finished it already but it's not finished with me. This is a story that will stay with me for awhile for a multitude of reasons.

Arrived safely today with a lovely little book of Halloween recipes! Thank you CafeKat, I'm going to have some fun with this! I love trying new recipes. (My poor hubby who is an amazing chef but he eats the best and worst I've made with a smile.)

I have recently discovered this author and am looking forward to reading this book. In fact, after I type this - I'm reading! =)

Thank you WingedMan for sharing this with me. =)

This was an amazing book! Hoffman's back cover indicates this is her most spellbinding and accomplished novel. I can certainly say that it is spellbinding! I did not want to put it down. My heart ached for Arlie and her children. I wanted to smack her hubby silly...well at least shake him silly. I just had to see where their lives went. I even shed a few tears as I got to the halfway point last night. I am certain that many readers will be able to relate to at least one of the characters in this book. What a great book club selection this would make - I could picture the discussions and I'm looking forward to reading the JEs!

Thank you WingedMan for sharing this wonderful book. I am sending to Valentina1209 in the morning and I know she will enjoy this novel - she is a big Hoffman fan. =)

Alice Hoffman draws the imperfect family like no other! I am always captivated by her unique style of writing, and with her quirky characters. As a mental health professional, I found the characters in this story to be particularly fascinating. Although quite sad and depressing at times, this story does have a remarkable message of hope as well.

I am having a hard time trying to look up rosepetal12 under screen names. If there is another way to search or if you can get the address for me and send it to my email I would appreciate it very much. I have one more book to read and then I will read this one, but I like to try and be on top of things. Like getting the addresses on the envelopes before I start reading the book. That way when I finish I just slip it in and off it goes. Thanks so much for the help.

I enjoyed this book! I just got done reading Green Angel by Alice Hoffman and I was not impressed with the book at all. This book was about fate, then did I pick the wrong person?, The was two children can be totally different. Even though one was not from the same father. It is about loss and how different people cope with that loss. It is about how someone at their end of their lives think back and wonder what could have been, did I make a mistake? I found the book very interesting! Thanks for sharing!!

I was struggling with this book, so I went back to check out the other Alice Hoffman books I've read (thank goodness for journal entries!). Discovered, I have had much the same feelings for all her books. I don't think her writing appeals to me. Sigh. I have too many bookrings here, so I'm going to send this on its way. Thank you for sharing!

I just finished the book and I enjoyed it very much. I really liked the author's style of writing, her characters and the message her book sent to me. I will certainly try to get my hand on more of Alice Hoffman's books.
Will travel on to fairy-dust as soon as I get her address.

Journal Entry 29 by rem_JLG-206842 on Monday, April 27, 2009
I agree with the cover and most of the journal entries - this was a spellbinding book and definitely one I couldn't put down.

I love Hoffman's writing - you never know what to expect. I love the magical elements and the completely dysfunctional characters. I think that's the beauty of her books - while you may not entirely like the character you are completely enthralled with their story. I didn't really like Arlie at first (in fact, I found her a bit stalkerish and creepy) but despite that I had to find out how her story ended.

I really enjoyed this book - absorbing, at times absolutely heartbreaking but like most of Hoffman's books that I've read...ultimately enchanting and magical. Loved it!! Will maybe read this again before I send it on its way! :)

This was a strange book, with hauntings and ghostly appearances. It was a very dysfunctional family who did not seem to care for each other for the most part. Blanca did love her brother Sam who was beyond help from anyone .
Thank you Fairy-dust for sending it to me.
