DIFFERENT COVER!!

From the back cover:

'A murderer strikes on board the luxury Nile steamer Karnak - and Hercule Poirot faces his most baffling case.'

This is a paperback copy from Fontana Books, published in ... maybe in 1978. It's a movie tie-in edition, with a photo of Peter Ustinov on the cover (the Sphinx in the supposed background, but it's actually another photo :-). The book was originally published in 1937.

I bought this book because I'm going to Egypt in October, and will among other things be going on a cruise on the Nile, and I want to release this book there. ;-) I want to read it first though, so I will probably read it soon.

I bought this book at a flea market at Tveten gård at Tveita in Oslo, two minutes from my building, earlier today.

The book is read, September 1st through 5th.

A good book, typically Christie. One of the best of hers that I've read. I already knew the story as I've seen a TV movie based on it (the one with David Suchet) although I didn't remember many details. The solution to the crime - or at least the identity of the perpetrators - wasn't hard to figure out, though. I guessed that pretty soon. But the setting & characters are entertaining and certainly make the book worth reading. Poirot is so funny & charming. :-) A very well-rounded character with convincing idiosyncrasies. The plot is slightly unlikely of course as in all of Christie's work ... but entertaining and fun.

Basic story outline: Poirot goes on vacation to Egypt, and as part of the trip he takes a cruise on the river Nile. On board the ship are a number of other passengers of various nationalities and backgrounds. Partway through the trip one of them is mysteriously murdered. Who can have committed this dastardly deed?? Poirot's little grey cells to the rescue ... !! :-)

This book is now reserved for release on a Nile cruise ship in Egypt, next month. Yay. :-)
