Historian

Bought at a library used book sale.
This is one of my favorite vampire books. It takes place in several time periods at one time as the mystery unravels for the reader. It's beautiful and emotional and suspenseful... but it's also smart and clever and logical. I adore the main characters- who are all rich and interesting. But I especially love the adventure. Definitely one of the best books I read last year.
From the back of the book:
Breathtakingly suspenseful and beautifully written, The Historian is the story of a young woman plunged into a labyrinth where the secrets of her family's past connect to an inconceivable evils: the dark fifteenth-century reign of Vlad the Impaler and a time-defying pact that may have kept his awful work alive through the ages. The search for the truth becomes an adventure of monumental proportions, taking us from monasteries and dusty libraries to the capitals of Eastern Europe- in a feat of storytelling so rich, so hypnotic, so exciting that is has enthralled readers around the world.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
"Oh, it is absurd to have a hard and fast rule about what one should read and what one shouldn't. More than half of modern culture depends on what one shouldn't read."
Oscar Wilde

"A book is a mysterious object, I said, and once it floats out into the world, anything can happen. All kinds of mischief can be caused, and there's not a damned thing you can do about it. For better or worse, it's completely out of your control."
Paul Auster
