The Notebook (Different Cover)

A quick enjoyable read. I am planning to start a ray with this book.
From Publishers Weekly
In 1932, two North Carolina teenagers from opposite sides of the tracks fall in love. Spending one idyllic summer together in the small town of New Bern, Noah Calhoun and Allie Nelson do not meet again for 14 years. Noah has returned from WWII to restore the house of his dreams, having inherited a large sum of money. Allie, programmed by family and the "caste system of the South" to marry an ambitious, prosperous man, has become engaged to powerful attorney Lon Hammond. When she reads a newspaper story about Noah's restoration project, she shows up on his porch step, re-entering his life for two days. Will Allie leave Lon for Noah? The book's slim dimensions and clich-ridden prose will make comparisons to The Bridges of Madison County inevitable. What renders Sparks's (Wokini: A Lakota Journey of Happiness and Self-Understanding) sentimental story somewhat distinctive are two chapters, which take place in a nursing home in the '90s, that frame the central story. The first sets the stage for the reading of the eponymous notebook, while the later one takes the characters into the land beyond happily ever after, a future rarely examined in books of this nature. Early on, Noah claims that theirs may be either a tragedy or a love story, depending on the perspective. Ultimately, the judgment is up to readersbe they cynics or romantics. For the latter, this will be a weeper. Literary Guild and Doubleday Book Club main selections.

This book is being released as a bookray. The rules are as follows:
When you receive the book, please journal it, and PM the next person in line for their address so you'll have it ready when you've finished the book.
Note: even if you've sent books to that person before, please PM them before mailing this one, to confirm that the address is correct and that they're able to take on a bookring book at this time.
Try and read the book promptly- ideally, within a month of receiving it. (If you expect to take longer, you can request to be put at the end of the list. If you find you're swamped with other books when the person before you contacts you about the bookring, you can ask to be skipped, and then let me know whether you'd like to be moved down the list or dropped entirely. If you receive the book and find it's taking longer than you'd planned to get through it, I'd appreciate an update in its journal entries or on your profile, just to let me and the other participants know you haven't forgotten it.)
When you're ready to pass the book along, please add your comments about the book and indicate where you're sending it, either through a journal entry or through the new controlled-release-note option. If you find that you're having problems contacting the next person in line, or don't think you can manage to mail the book as originally agreed, please let me know; I'll be glad to try to work something out!

Will mail today at lunch
This came in the mail today. I will do the best I can in finishing this within a month. If all else fails I'll send it to the next person without reading/finishing it.
I finished the book tonight. I guess I had more time on my hands than I thought. It's very similar to the film. It's also based off the lives of the author's grandparents, which I found interesting. I really like Sparks' style of writing. He really has a way with words. I will mail this out as soon as I get norarobertsfan's addy.

this book was great, and i found it in very similiar relation to the movie,i loved the pace at which it moved and the avid descriptions that Sparks gave. At the same time two other books arrived and they all piled up at the same time! Since yayajanuary had asked to be skipped, so i had the book mailed out to Sarahbear today.

Such a sweet book. Sending as part of a secret santa package. Merry Christmas!
I really must apologise for the long delay in journaling this. For some reason it got sent to my parent's house. My mother put the parcel in a 'safe place' and then forgot about it for 3 months!! I only learned of it's existence in the last week or so! Nicholas Sparks seems to be getting a number of his books made into movies now. I've not read any of him, so am interested in seeing what it's like (particulalrly in light of this recent interview: http://www.usatoday.com/life/movies/news/2010-03-11-lastsong11_CV_N.htm)
Thanks to alice2623663 for this extra surprise! :-)

I polished this off last night - it's a very quick read! Unfortunately that's the thing I found most positive about the experience. Plot-wise, I think this story is very shallow and the leads seem almost too perfect. Even when there was a hint of potential conflict (Lon turning up), everything sorted out very quickly. Anyway, I'm pleased I've finally read a Sparks novel and I'm now passing it on to a new owner, who will ( hopefully) appreciate it better than me!
This will be posted to the most recent Happy Smile Day winner, who has listed it on her wishlist. I hope she enjoys it!
