They spend their days - and too many of their nights - at work. Away from friends and family, they share a stretch of stained carpet with a group of strangers they call colleagues.

There's Chris Yop, who is clinging to his ergonomic chair; Lynn Mason, the boss, whose breast cancer everyone pretends not to talk about; Carl Garbedian, secretly taking someone else's medication, Marcia Dwyer, whose hair is stuck in the eighties; and Benny, who's just - well, just Benny. Amidst the boredom, redundancies, water-colour moments, meetings, flirtations and pure rage, life is happening, to their great surprise, all around them.

Then We Came to the End is about sitting all morning next to someone you cross the road to avoid at lunch. It's the story of your life, and mine.

3 out of 10

I tried to read this a while ago and then put it on one side. I came across it again recently. I wasn't sure why it had been put on one side so I picked it up and starting reading it again. I managed another three chapters and gave up. I now remember why I put it down the first time. It's boring. According to the blurb it's a comedy debut but it only got a couple of laughs out of me. It's very repetetive in my opinion.

Reserved for my NSSEBS partner as it's on her wish list. I sincerely hope she gets more out of the book than I did.

6 out of 10

Finaly got round to reading this, and I agree, it really isn't that funny. But the part when one of the staff spends the day only speaking lines from The Godfather really did make me laugh out loud.
