Thanks so much Lone-Star-Lori for this book and the BC goodies inside. I will read it when I return from holiday. I love the musical, and have got it listed on my MP3 player for the long train journeys whilst abroad.

Great story - though it was a strange experience to read it after being so familiar with the musical. All the events occur in a different order and frequently involve different characters!

Whilst it wasn't as good The Woman in White or Dracula in terms of tension and atmostsphere, Phantom of the Opera kept me hooked whilst reading on the bus to and from work each day. I enjoyed getting bits like the 'punjab lasso' and 'Don Juan Triumphant' fleshed out in more detail than the musical allows.

But the star turn of the novel must go to the setting itself. I'm fairly confident that Leroux's descriptions of the Paris Opera House were exagerated *grin*, they really captured my imagination. Imagine - a building with five levels of cellars, numerous attics, seventeen floors, an underground lake, secret passageways and zillions of trapdoors!

Sorry for holding onto this book so long guys! Busy xmas period with 3 university assignments to hand in!

This book is now on it's way to Hong Kong via surface mail. May take 4 - 6 weeks to arrive.

Did finish the book as I struggled to get into it which suprised me as I love the musical. It seemed to lack something.

Glad I got the chance to try it though :-)

I'm not sure why it took me so long to get "into" this book. I started it several times. I liked it but some sections seemed to drag for me. I enjoyed the setting, though, and would have enjoyed a tour of this Opera House.
