8 out of 10

From dustjacket:
A debut of great heart and humanity, the rug merchant is a captivating novel about an unlikely friendship and an unlikely love affair...... An inspiring, character-rich tale about shaking free from disappointment and finding connection and acceptance in whatever form they appear.

I really enjoyed this book, it was simple and complex all at once, and the characters were written with heart and soul (although Mrs Roberts was a bit of an odd ingredient into the mix). It was a love affair and a cultural conflict all at once.

Whilst it will never be regarded a'great literary work', this novel was still well worth reading and I will be interested to see what comes next from this new author.
