Synopsis

The perfect title for the perfect beach read from the New York Times bestselling Author

Jane Green is one of the preeminent authors of women's fiction today, and with each new novel, her audience grows. Green's avid and loyal fans follow her because she writes about the true-to-life dilemmas of women—and The Beach House will not disappoint.

Known in Nantucket as the crazy woman who lives in the rambling house atop the bluff, Nan doesn't care what people think. At sixty-five-years old, her husband died twenty years ago, her beauty has faded, and her family has flown. If her neighbors are away, why shouldn't she skinny dip in their swimming pools and help herself to their flowers? But when she discovers the money she thought would last forever is dwindling and she could lose her beloved house, Nan knows she has to make drastic changes.

So Nan takes out an ad: Rooms to rent for the summer in a beautiful old Nantucket home with water views and direct access to the beach. Slowly, people start moving into the house, filling it with noise, with laughter, and with tears. As the house comes alive again, Nan finds her family expanding. Her son comes home for the summer, and then an unexpected visitor turns all their lives upside-down.

Book arrived yesterday, but due to the rain from Hurricane Ike, I just left my house to check the mail today :)

I have really enjoyed Jane Green's other books, so looking forward to reading this one! Good timing, too, because I just finished another book ... so am ready to dig into this one!

Note:This book has a rainbow-shaped cut on the spine of the book and the book jacket ... missprisy says the book arrived this way from Amazon, so no need for future BCers to worry that this happened in transit! :)

Another good book by Jane Green. Although the story wasn't a breathtaking page-turner, it was interesting enough to keep me reading and make me want to find out what happens to all of the characters.

My only complaint is that, similar to books by many British authors, some of the verbiage used just isn't 'accurate' ... meaning, she uses phrases that Americans would not likely use. For example, saying "Get on with each other", when we would normally say "Get along with each other" ... or "We had a row", when we would probably say "We had a fight". Don't get me wrong, I love "Britishisms", but they sound strange coming out of the mouth of an American :)

Overall, a good read ... thanks to missprisy for sharing! I've got pammykn's address and will stick this in the mail to her tomorrow.

Jane Green certainly writes different books since the days of JemimaJ - my all time favorite of hers - but the books are always enjoyable to me. I thought there was too much going on in the beginning, but enjoyed the story when it all came together. Loved Nan. Would love to rent a room in her beach house!

Will pass this book on to angela861 on Saturday (if not before) when I see her next!

I also loved Jemima J! This book was very different but I still liked it. It was a bit jumpy in the beginning but I liked how all the stories came together in the end.

I now need to go on vacation to Nantucket!

I'm going to PM the next person and send this on soon.

Wow what a powerful book...It really hit home at times as I am having some problems with my family now. I think that is why it took me so long to get it read. The book was almost as if Jane Green knew these people. I enjoyed the different stories that in the end came together. Thanks so much for sharing it with me:) It was a short trip home for me! I was born and lived in connecticut for 18 years and RI is only 15 minutes away from where I lived growing up. I really do miss being on the East Coast:(
I saw there was a rip on page 331 and taped it so it would not get worse, also found what looked to be almost a half circle sliced into the spine part of the dust jacket. Just wanted you to know that I got it this way.
Sending to etchescetch this Friday!!

The book is with me now. The envelope has written on it that it arrived on Feb. 26 but I've checked my box at least twice, and my husband has at least once, within the past two weeks for sure and there wasn't a notice in the box. Interesting.

I'm really looking forward to reading The Beach House. I'm maneuvering through a bookcrossing bottleneck at the moment though and my plan is to start reading it in about a week.

.

The last part of the book that I actually remember is the introduction of each character and their back-stories. After that, my reading time went down hill and I only returned to the book very sporadically. My workload has triple-fold; I finally gave up trying to find the time to enjoy it and decided to move the book along.

Beach House is now on its way to spoiledrotten.

Missprisy, thank you so much for allowing me to be a part of your bookray.

This was the first book I have read by this author and I I did enjoy it. I agree with Bethaniekay that some of the wording was a little "off" for me to. After reading the comments I think I would like to read Jemima J. Thanks so much for including me. I will journal again once it has been mailed.

Sorry that I've had this book for so long...all the rings arrived at once! I enjoyed this book as well as the first one I recently read by Jane Green. I do agree with BethanieKay about certain verbiage used in the book. I can't remember specifics but when I read the wording, I knew it wasn't something Americans would say. I lived in London for four years and am familiar with the differences in certain terms and phrases.

I enjoyed this book. Thank you missprisy for starting this ray. I will mail it out to krl112 in about an hour.

From the beginning of this book, I knew I wasn't going to like it. I was so surprised, because I have read other Jane Green books, and I have loved it. Plus, I was looking forward to this book so much. My husband and I went to Cape Cod last summer on vacation, but this book was not for me. I could not get into any of the characters, and I just felt like this wasn't the book for me. I have the next person's mailing address, and I'll send this off today.

Thank you so much for including me in this bookring!

I like Jane Green books. I identified with her characters in the Beach house, especially Daff, however this was not her finest work.
