Journal Entry 7 by ajsmom from Quesnel, British Columbia Canada on Monday, October 27, 2008
This book was sad...but also enjoyable in that I haven't read tons of books from this period and found it interesting that the language was so accessible. I felt sorry for The Invisible Man up until he started speaking, and then of course, he becomes intensely unlikable. Did he go mad because he spent too much time on his own? Was his research sending him in that direction? Did the invisibility make him more self-centred than he already was?

A good book club read, maybe....I have PM'd the next in line and will have this on its way asap.

Sorry it took so long to read! But now I have indeed finished it. I give it an 8 out of 10 and was an above average read. I felt sorry for the invisible man throughout the book until the last 10 or so chapters. I don't want to ruin the rest of the book so the rest you will have to find out yourself. I have PMed the next in line for the book.

I enjoyed this book. As the others have said, initially you feel some sympathy for the invisible man. How had this happened to him? As the story of him unfolds you come to dislike him. A very clever piece of writing. It also makes you wonder if his personality was already like this or was it a result of the invisibilty? Great!
I already have the address for the next person. Will send it on after the weekend.

Sorry for delay in journalling, I've barely had a spare second! This is safe with me and is 2nd on mt. TBR - although I may bump it up above the Twilight bookray as it looks a much shorter read!

Journal Entry 16 by mazzlestar from Leeds, West Yorkshire United Kingdom on Tuesday, February 3, 2009
nyehhh... I don't really know what to say on this one. It kinda bugged me, it just wasn't really my cup of tea. I couldn't get into it - I think I needed more character development. Plot and description and whatnot is all well and good, but not without character development. The story was good, I just struggled with it on a personal level.

I enjoyed the book, and would agree with the previous BCer's who said they felt sorry for the Invisible Man at certain points through the book.

Interesting quick read. A bit sad how you initially sympathize with the invisible man, and then really start to dislike him. I found the end a bit harsh though.

I'll see if the next person on the list is still interested in reading this.

edit 13-05-2013: sky-so-blue does not seem so active anymore, or I got no response on my PMs. I have offered the book on the forum, and will send it on to the first reader on the new list instead!

The language used illustrates how books have been dumbed down over the years. Despite it being a Thin book it took me ages to read as it didn't really grip me. Perhaps the main character was just too horrible to relate to.

I'm please I've read this classic, and have the next readers address.

I found it hard to get into this story initially but when the invisible man started telling his story and revealing the depths of his madness I really enjoyed it. Was it his alienation caused by his invisibility and treatment as if he were a monster that drove him mad, or was it his madness that drove him to the extreme of invisibility? A very interesting idea.

Journal Entry 37 by wingpam99wing at Troon, Scotland United Kingdom on Thursday, December 26, 2013
an interesting read although I much preferred The Time Traveller, which I'd also read recently. Found the main character here quite unsympathetic and it made it harder to get into the story, although it's a short enough book.
