My husband who was never a big reader until he found this series (this is book #1) sitting on my shelf said I really should read them next. Since he's been building shelves for all of my books and organizing them by author I figured it was the least I could do.
This is about a house rumored to contain a blood thirsy beast. It starts out with a triple murder, then more murder, an innocent child is abused & molested in the typical Laymon style. It's hard to stomach the kiddie stuff, it really is, and I don't understand the need to put it in the book (there are other way to allude to it without the graphics) but I shall plod on hoping it doesn't continue in this vein.
Well, I finished but can't say as I'm proud of the fact. This book was ridiculous. I enjoyed shouting out the ridiculousness of the plot holes to my husband as I found each one which is probably the only reason I managed to finish the book. A little past 1/3 of the way through the book delves into the past of the "beast" and it is so ridiculous it's hilarious. And the silly ending just topped it all off. I'm doing my best not to spoil things if you are inclined to check out this monstrosity for yourself but it made no sense at all given the fact that the women/child had been abused and there was no reason behind the last chapter besides some sort of weird unearthly attraction Laymons' women have to white hairless, jowled beasts with lots of teeth and huge male parts! Sexy? I think not . . . Gross? You betcha.
