"The 'Good Parts Version' of S. Morgenstern's classic story – as reconstructed by William Goldman.
So what is it all about?
The most beautiful girl –well, almost- and the handsomest farmboy in the world. Swashbuckling pirates and master swordsmen. Lovable giants and monstrous beasts. Miraculous escapes and devastating captures. Fire-swamps and Cliffs of Insanity. True love and deadly revenge.

In short, it's about everything."

One of my all time favourite books, and the first book I have actually bought a duplicate of for BC purposes, feeling quite unable to release my own. This is a movie tie-in edition I rescued from a slightly strange military antiques shop in Scarborough – I hope you can give this fabulous book a better home!

This was actually planned for an English Bookbox, which then was so unpromising I didn't need much ammunition for it. So, instead this goes into the much better PhantastikBox, which, up to now, doesn't contain quite enough Fantasy yet. :)

Released on Thursday, December 04, 2003 at BookBox in Post, Nordrhein-Westfalen Germany.

Inside the PhantastikBox.

The cover of the book sounds like a nice-written fairy-tale, so I couldn't resist to take it with me.

The book was in all ways different then I expexted it to be. Where shall I start explaining? Well, originally an author named Morgenstern wrote a book with such a title. Goldman, who knew it from his father loved it since childhood an thought of it as an faszinating adventure story. When, as an adult, he found out that his father let out a lot of parts of the book for him he decided to make an abridgement. Only the "good" parts of the story should be left. In the introduction Goldmann explains how it came to this. He explains it very detailled, in fact he is just telling his whole life in this introduction and I often wondered what it should have to do with the book. He writes some short passages during the book as well, in the parts he left out, providing some explanations why he did so. The original seemed to be a satire. Goldman's tries to make an adventure out of it by leaving out the parts he thinks of as boring. So what is left is a mixture of an adventure and a satire. In some way I liked it but in another this way of telling was really odd. But one thing ist sure: It isn't a book you forget about easiliy.

I do tend to get these very flattering results, don't I? ;p

Which Princess Bride character are you?

You are The Grandfather. Born in a time when television was called books, you now while away the time reading stories and pinching cheeks. Alone and forced into early retirement, you live off of your police force pension, imposing your presence on those too sick to escape you.

Thank you linguistkris for first sending this book out into the world!
Really enjoyed it, the adventure, the love, the humor! And I really like the parts by Goldman himself, it just makes it very lively.
I will now try to get my boyfriend to read it, he does not read much but I think he might like this one :-)
