Journal Entry 1 by soffitta1 from Ávila, Ávila Spain on Wednesday, July 30, 2008
from Bookmooch. A priest is on the run in Mexico, a priest battling with his faith and becoming more of a "whisky-priest". The police are looking for him as well as an American wanted for murder. An interesting look at the politics of Mexico. No. 589 on the 1001 Books list. To go in Latin American themed Bookbox.

Journal Entry 3 by Tubereader from Bruxelles / Brussel, Bruxelles / Brussel Belgium on Friday, December 05, 2008
Picked up this book from soffitta1's Latin American bookbox. As it was included by soffitta1, I took it out so that she does not get back the books she originally put in. As soffitta1 said, it is on the 1001 books you must read before you die list, therefore I am reserving it for when I put together a bookbox with that theme!

I really enjoyed this one. I like Greene's writing. He gives you a real flavour for the country and the people without waffling on endlessly. I liked the piece of misdirection around the events at the banana plantation. You think you know what happened there given the limited information supplied. At the end of the book you realise what must have happened which is completely different. As for the priest, he claims to be a coward but he turns out to be merely human in the end. I'll return this to the 1001 library.
