10 out of 10

I finally finished reading this in one mammoth session the other day. I read so mcuh I gave myself a headache!
I loved this - gave it 5 stars. It was a real suprise. It had so much more depth than I expected and I love the overlapping of time periods, but I did get confused about who was who sometimes :)

SPOILER!! Poor Nell!! I guess she never really found out who she was. I didn't see the twist with Eliza and Nathaniel coming. I had weird Uncle Linus pegged as the father because of what William Martin told Nell. That was a great red herring!!
And don't you just feel terrible for Eliza at the end. Adeline is one of the most hateful characters I've ever read. rose comes a close second place

This was a really good historical type mystery and I loved that the characters were so believable. I haven't read House at Riverton but now its on my list.

If you're new to BookCrossing - welcome! I hope you will enjoy the site as much as I have. BookCrossing is about spreading literature around the world for free. Please make a journal entry for the book you have found so we can see where it travels to next. You can do this anonymously if you like but if you decide to join (its free!!) please consider entering me (NICNIC2) as your referring member. I don't receive anything for this but I like knowing that I've encouraged someone else to catch the BookCrossing bug! Happy reading!!

10 out of 10

I absolutely loved this. Much, much better than The House At Riverton which, for me, lost momentum halfway through. This one just keeps up the pace and I kept turning the pages desperate to see the outcome even after I had worked out the complicated relationships.

I bought muy Mum a copy of this for Christmas and she actually drew out a family tree for the characters!

It is easy to get lost in the generations and forgetting who is who's grandmother etc. but on the whole this was a really good read. Thanks so much Nicnic for sending it to me.
