Loved the movie, love Daphne du Maurier, never read the book. So I was glad to find it at the library's book sale.

Never read it but I liked the movie. So we'll see if I ever get around to reading it. Thanks, Rampallion.
I enjoyed this book but it was about 30 pages too long. At about that point I was beginning to get fed up with this woman’s imaginings. It was one thing when she was a foolish girl and even a foolish young wife. But after things have happened she has little reason to keep on with this dreaming. It began to bug me. I almost threw the book across the room.
And my enduring question is what is her name? Doesn’t she have a first name? She is always saying "Maxim" and he doesn’t call her anything. Maybe it is because we are in her mind. But, then, wouldn’t she relish this man she loves saying her name? I don't know, that began to bug me too.
So the book lost probably points on this basis. I enjoyed the book but I also got quite peeved at the book.
It is surprising how close the movie stayed to the book. Almost too close.
