Journal Entry 1 by alarob from Birmingham, Alabama USA on Tuesday, April 08, 2003

This book is the result of an ambitious field study of grizzly bears in the Yellowstone National Park area. My mother gave it to me on my 18th birthday, but it's been 21 years now and I haven't read it. (Sorry, Mom!) If I'm going to release a book into the wild, what better book than this? And what better place than the Zoo? Hmm...

"Caught" at today's Southside/UAB mini-meetup from alarob. Thanks! Maybe I'll get it to the zoo when I'm done, or ????? We'll see.

I've made several attempts to dig in with this book and have not yet succeeded. As alarob noted, this book was about an early field study of grizzly bears in Yellowstone. They learn lots of new information about the grizzly's mating, denning, parenting, and hierarchy, as well as about Park Service bureaucracy. The book is full of interesting details, but the authors to not have the knack of making their naturalist inquiries as readable as many modern adventure writers. Going to be sent to ClassroomBooks, who is collecting for a bookshelf in her biology/environmental science classroom. ******* Mailed 10/29/05.
