Portsmouth is a city on the ropes, a poor, dirty but spirited city, with a soaring crime rate. And it is home for DI Joe Faraday. Now Emma Maloney's dad has gone missing. Faraday thinks he may have been murdered. But these days, a hunch is not enough. Faraday's squad of detectives are battling with an ever-growing caseload of a city torn by violence, poverty, drug-dealing and petty crime. Who can spare the time and resources for an investigation unsupported by hard evidence? Joe Faraday is struggling with his own demons, and finding Stuart Maloney, dead or alive, develops into a battle not simply for justice, but for sanity.

Not my usual genre but a nice read non the less. The main reason I chose this book in the first place was because it is based in my nearest city Portsmouth and surrounds and I know the area well. I did find it a bit odd reading about places and roads that I know well and found myself thinking about the places rather than the story. I started to get a bit lost 2/3 of the way through as there were rather a lot of characters and more than one story line running through and then just as I had given up expecting a conclusion the ending came along in a bit of a rush. I know this is the first book in the Jo Farady series and I already have the next two so I will be reading them before too long to see how the character develops.

Thank you for passing this onto me Purplerosebud. It shouldn't be too long before I read this.

Another new author and series for me. I enjoyed this book especially as it was about Portsmouth and I could recognise the places that were mentioned. Looking forward to reading further books. Thank you Purplerosebud for passing this onto me to read. Handing it back to you now as I know you have another friend to pass it onto.

Passing this book on to a non-bookcrossing friend now but I know it will still travel and maybe one day we will hear about it again.

Enjoy!
