When an affair leaves him jobless, shunned by friends, and ridiculed by his ex-wife, professor David Lurie retreats to his daughter's small holding. You'll injoy the father-daughter dynamics and the racial complexities of the new South Africa.
Received on Saturday. Thanks so much for sending this one, tiatia. I've only read one book by J.M. Coetzee before, but not this one, even though it is so well known. Now I can fix that!
Finished this one. I appreciated the chance to read this modern South African classic. However, I don't think I'll ever read another Coetzee book, they are just too dark and miserable. Make no mistake, his writing is brilliant, I just don't think he is the kind of person who has a song in his heart.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
In the mail to kingfan30 tomorrow, as it is on her wishlist.
My book #3 for guinaveve's Keep Them Moving challenge 2010.
My book #8 for the Reduce Mount TBR challenge.
Edited 1 August: I found this book, as well as some others that I thought I had sent out, in the bottom drawer of my desk at work this week. I see kingfan30 now has this on her bookshelf, so I'll be sending her another RABCK this week. Released instead at the Book Fair meetup.

This was left on the table after our BookCrossing meeting at the Cape Town International Book Fair today. I've seen the movie and found it all a bit depressing... so I didn't really want to read the book myself.
A little later I heard two girls speaking German at one of the cafe tables and they looked like "reading types" :)
So when they got up to leave I offered the book to them and quickly explained BookCrossing. They were quite interested, and I hope one of them will make a journal entry for this book in the future!
