When foster-mother Eunice spry was sentenced to fourteen years in prison for abusing the children in her care, the details of her cruelty were so sickening they shocked the country, Alloma Gilbert was one of Spry's young victims, sent to live with her at the age of six and left at her mercy for eleven brutal years.

Eunice used her own twisted religious beliefs as an excuse for punishing her foster children. When she took them to live on an isolated farmhouse, the abuse escalated to terrifying levels-a stick was thrust down Alloma's through so often was strained red with blood, she was starved and survived only by secretly eating pigswill, and the vicious beatings were relentless. At the age of seventeen she finally escaped but, alone in the outside world, she fell prey to abusive men. It was the birth of her new baby daughter that saved her, that finally taught her what love really is.

I read this book in one night. Once I started reading I just couldnt stop. This is a truly heartbreaking story of an EVIL greedy foster mother. As a mother of four I just couldn't believe the things this woman did to those poor children and she got a way with it for so long I just wanted to jump in and save them. I believe those poor children will need so much therapy to recover if they can ever recover.

Can't believe I didn't journal this book when it arrived - many apologies mummafour. I had it at work reading during night shift quiet times and ended up reading it within a few days.

What a sad, tragic childhood these poor children were put through. An evil woman in so many ways, I think this is one of the worst cases of child abuse I have read about. I couldn't imagine treating anyone in the way Alloma and the others children were treated. Makes me hug my little one even more.

Offering this one back to the OZ VBB to keep it circulating. Thanks mummafour.

Unbeleivable cruelty to so many children in this person's care! Heartbreaking and difficult to comprehend on how Eunice Spry was able to get away with the continued abuse of the children in her care for so long. Frankly I thought that 14 years jail was a little too lenient.
