I was looking through other's wishlist when I stumbled this book, which its cover, and its title made me buy this book.

Update: 2010.02.24.
I loved this story. Mysterious. I was amazed, how many twists were in the story line. Secrets in deep, resignation, sorrowness. The pain, the coldness was interweaved the story, the love, the tenderness was also there, but could feel only through the pain, which was very very painful.

For the characters the solution was to find their belief at God. Living alone in the wild without any pastors, it causes that people leave the path and believe the strongest, who can easily mislead the group. A little bit questionable - for me - that a 10 year old child can bring light for others. I reckon the Christian philosphy was strong, Cadi's religious education lesson, the effect of it on her slightly unbelievable, but I live in the XXI. century, but for the era of the story - I think - is suitable. After all it is a fiction.

There is a little community in America, on the territory of Indians. It seems to be a good, peaceful land, where families live their lifes, cultivate the land, bring up children. But dark secrets are hidden in deep, in people's soul. We (readers) join to the story via Cadi Forbes's life, she is 10 years old, and she has a very deep sorrow. Something happened in 1 year ago, which made Cadi to be an 'outcast'. Slowly it turns out that Cadi had got a little sister, who died, and Cadi thinks that she killed her... She would like to get rid of this sin, thus she started to look for the Sin Eater , who eats the dead people's sins. As how Cadi nears to the Sin Eater, we get to know more about these people. It turns out this is an isolated community, whose have got an egoistic 'leader', who is strong, wild, fierce, hateful, everybody fears from him, he directs their life. One day a 'mon' (monk, pastor) arrived to the land, who speaks very different, and the leader forbade to go closer to him, but Cadi meets him and we finally get to know Cadi's secret about her little sister. With this man's help Cadi starts to understands the things around her, but the leader is so afraid of this new man, and he kills him. From this moment the happenings speed up, the threads joints together, the secrets reveals.

The hardest part is the text itself, it is written in old English faithful to the era in which story acted, ... dinna, aye, yo and the others ... made my progress slower, but after a while I understood them well enough to read continously :))

Hakkalina! What a wonderful surprise!! Thank you so very much for my FANTASTIC package with this wishlist book, fairy postcard, the Summer Fairy craft kit (which you so deligently took so much time translating the instructions into English...what an angel you are!), the cookies (yum....I've already had a few!), and most wonderfully....your letter!!
You're the best!! You made my day. It's been awhile since I've gotten anything in the mail that's Bookcrossing related too, so that made your package extra special.
On the book....I've seen the movie, and loved it. I look forward to seeing if the book holds up, but Francine Rivers is a fantastic writer, so I am sure that it will. :-)
