TLC Book club. A true story about a growing up in a dysfunctional, non-conformist family. Early on they lived as nomads in various desert towns, making due with what they had and doing the "skeedaddle" right before the bill collectors came calling. Later, the parents and 4 kids migrated to Dad's home town of Welch, West Virginia where things became horrid as Dad was usually drunk, and Mom was unable to care for the kids, leaving the four to band together to fend for themselves. Later, the kids one by one escaped to New York, to more normal lives...and the parents followed, content to live as homeless people on the streets of New York. Despite the dismal content, the writer love for her parents and exasperation at their choices comes through

I caught the book from nancynora (thank you!). I really enjoyed the book - not knowing what to expect when it was dropped off for me to read. I would highly recommend this to anyone. The characters are wonderful. It is an unbelieveable true story with characters so amusing I could not believe they were not fictitious.
