From the blurb: "Venetia Aldridge is a criminal lawer of large talents and small personal charm, working at a venerable London firm.... As she tries to save a young lower-class tough who is accused of murdering his prostitute aunt, we learn she is in a position to ruin a number of professional lives, and is of precisely the temperament to do it..." Venetia Aldrige is murdered and it is once again Adam Dalgliesh and his team who investigate the murder.

I love all P.D. James mysteries for she's really great in developing her characters, the investigators, the suspects and murderers alike. Thereby the reader is able to take a look into the most different parts of British, of London society. In this novel it's the judicial society she turns her and our attention to. What is justice? How can a lawyer defend a murderer in court? Even get him free? And what if the murderer is known to everybody, yet the crime he committed cannot be proven? Yet another thrilling and most exciting investigation featuring Adam Dalgliesh and his team Kate Miskin and Piers Tarrant.
