If you think you know what your words really mean, and that the words you mean are the only way to represent reality, you haven't learned at least one other language.

What if your language had only two ways to describe time, for example: now and other, as the Hopi do.

Would you be restricted by that description? Or would you come to understand a new way to think about time?

What if your child came home without a jacket? If you asked where it was, and your child was an American, he would acknowledge, "I lost it." Blame would be established by his saying that. Yet, if the child were Spanish speaking, he would said, "My jacket got lost from me." No blame. The Spanish culture is a shame culture, not a blame culture. You will read all about it.

This book is full of new ways to view reality. I think you will enjoy it.
