I read this on audio via the library just within the last month or so, but then picked up this new copy at the book warehouse sale. I hadn't previously read any Joshilyn Jackson (although I have her other two on my wishlist...not sure how I missed this one?!) & was very pleasantly surprised by how much I really liked this book! I think after reading the description I was expecting it to be maybe more chick-lit"ish", but it wasn't at all. It read more like a "good" bad soap opera (I guess maybe you have to read it to understand that description?) -- quite funny with all the southern dialect, but yet the characters were so real, or at least seemed to be. I could totally picture all the happenings in the book, as ridiculous as some of them seemed. Overall, I really loved the writing style & now definitely have to pursue Jackson's other titles.

What a charming story! I read Jackson's gods in Alabama a while back and while I didn't necessarily dislike it, I wasn't that taken by the story either. This one, however, was a pleasant surprise.

I think Jackson does quite a good job of narrating her own story. She nailed the characters, and I settled in quite quickly to enjoy this tale. Nothing too deep to test the brain—just good storytelling with compelling characters and a nice southern twang to everything. I also found myself reverting back to my southern drawl around my Yankee co-workers. ;-)

This one will soon be on its way to AceofHearts for the Audiobook VBB over on BookObsessed.
