Syd and I just finished a Lovely Bones discussion with our book club on June 1st; the members liked the story telling from the perspective of Susie up in heaven. I hope this book has a good journey and we look forward to journal notes from all the other readers!

I got a bad impression from the description of the book but was very pleasantly surprised. The author told a very touching, heartwarming and at times tear-wrenching story about her heroine and her heroine's family after her heroine was sadistically murdered as a young teen. It was an interesting tale of family dynamics brought to a head by the tragic death of one of their members. A number of interesting characters were developed including the murderer and other people living in the family's town. In our book club meeting we all agreed it would make a great movie!! Please forward this to Hollywood!! Sent to Gyd in Spain on June 10th! Enjoy!

Yay! I got 'The lovely Bones' right by my side (safe & sound into a cookies box :0)...but oooh...no cookies left ;0)
I found the notification in my mailbox two days ago but couldn't go to the Mail Office until today to bring it home.
Many thanks for your 'donation', Skuehn, and thanks Ladybug01 for all your efforts to keep the bookray moving (and for your handwritten note and nice bookmark too!!). I'll start reading it this weekend (really, really looking forward to!)

Journal Entry 4 by Gyd from Barcelona, Barcelona Spain on Tuesday, July 8, 2003
It talks about life more than death (and from an original perspective) and it really held my interest.
Just a thought: call me picky but I don't like the 'generic' bracelet pictured in the cover (it's important in the plot, so if you want to represent it, do it properly).
Oh well, I'm not good at reviews, but you have already noticed, huh? ;0)
Thanks again for sharing and tomorrow will keep its journey, next stop: Lisboa,Portugal. Enjoy Fflloorr!! :0)

Oh no! One more bookray book. :-) I'm now buried in a lot of rings/rays. Please people, be patient with me. I'll try to read the book asap.
Thanks again Gyd, for one more book!
And thanks Ladybug01 for organizing this ray and for the lovely bookmark!

Lovely book!
I found it a bit sad but very well written. I really enjoyed the way Alice Sebold told the story of little Susie and her family and friends. Now I'm very curious to read Lucky, also by the same author.
Next stop: Jolanda.

Journal Entry 7 by Jolanda from Rotterdam, Zuid-Holland Netherlands on Monday, September 1, 2003
Finally I went to the postoffice to get this book, the notice was on my table for a week already. There are several bookrings/rays in front of it but I'll read it as soon as possible.

Thanks for the bookmark Ladybug01

a touching story. And a real page-turner. I enjoyed the read a lot.

Licota didn't respond to the pm's I've send her. Therefor I send a pm to agrace today (october 3, 2003) to keep the ring going.

Released on Friday, October 10, 2003 at Another Bookcrosser in Rotterdam, Zuid-Holland Netherlands.

In the mail on it's way to Agrace.

How exciting to find this on my doorstep!!
I can't wait to get into it.

A very good book. It made me laugh and cry, made me wonder how I would react if the unthinkable happend to my family. (I did make the mistake of starting the book right before I went to bed ---- no sleep for me that night!)
The scene with Susie in the bike shop was a little "out there" for me. I don't think it added to the story, and even distracted from it IMHO.
It has taken me longer to get this to the post office than I intended, but will be mailed today.

I'm so pleased The Lovely Bones is here. I'd actually given this book up for lost. I'll start reading it tomorrow night.

P.S. It's the first book I've ever received in a Ritz cracker box!

Journal Entry 13 by Jengif from Greenville, North Carolina USA on Monday, November 10, 2003
The Lovely Bones was a beautiful piece of literature. The book was both sad and heartwarming at the same time. I was pleasantly surprised by how good it was. I had actually felt a little trepidation before I began reading it. I generally don’t like sad stories, but this book didn’t try to be depressing at all. Susie and her family were wonderful characters and they acted the way people might in real life who are faced with the same situation. I’ve read that nothing can break up a family more thoroughly than the death of a child. I believe it.

Mailed to Sprockitt in Singapore. She'll have it in 4 to 6 weeks.

Have a safe journey...

Hey, I didn't expect this book to get to me so soon! I wonder what happened to RealBookWorm and ddisme? Have they read this already?

Well, I received this book in the mail yesterday... but was too tired to journal it till today. I've taken a pic of the box ladybug01 wrapped this book in, it really threw me for a moment there when I tore open the mail package to find... a Ritz Bitz Sandwich box! ;) Btw... we don't have Ritz bitz with graham cracker smores here... am so curious, what are smores, and do they taste nice? Hehe. Perhaps we can start a "Food-crossing" on top of bookcrossing?

Anyway, really appreciate the effort by ladybug01 to keep this ring going and for including me. Thanks!

Well, I must say that I enjoyed reading this book, it was interesting to look at how Suzie's family went through the process of coping with her untimely demise. Though there were certain instances when I felt puzzled by the development of the tale towards the end of the story, a good example was the out-of-body experience, I gave this book excellent marks for its originality. Hm... I have this feeling the author just shoved in that out -of-body episode as a weak plot device to sustain the story. Curious development for what had been a fine story-telling so far. Anyway, the build-up to the ending was a little tedious for me, but I like it.

Anyway, has anyone watched the TV series "Dead Like Me"? It follows the idea of "The Lovely Bones" somewhat. By the way, the concept of Heaven in the book seems pretty limited. I'm sure all of us have pretty much more interesting concepts ;P

Lovely, lovely writing. I didn't want the book to end. Thank you for sharing this with us! Hope to send on as soon as I get an address.

Update 6/2: Victoriastories says she already owns a copy of this book and doesn't remember signing up for the bookray. So I'll try Tho.

Update: Tho has also read it. PM'd the starter of the ray and never heard back. Planning to release on vacation this summer.

Journal Entry 20 by 16stepper at Country Inn & Suites in Dundee, Michigan USA on Friday, August 6, 2004
Released on Friday, August 06, 2004 at Country Inn & Suites in Dundee, Michigan USA.

Asked desk clerk if I could leave it in their lobby (they already have their reading program - take a book, return it and they'll contribute to a literacy program) so I didn't want to step on any toes. The clerk had read Sebold's Lucky and asked if she could read this one, so I gave it to here.
