I loved reading this book a couple of years ago, so when I saw this audiobook on clearance, I snatched it up. I didn't know how the abridgement would affect the story. I think anyone could follow this even though it is abridged. Patrick Wilson is a fine narrator (although it sounds like he has a cold by the final CD!).

Now available for trade for another audiobook.

I think that when I added this book to my wishlist, I didn't realize it was of the horror genre. I figured that out before beginning to read, but figured I'd go for it anyway. I haven't read a true horror-ish book in many, many years -- not since Stephen King or maybe Dean Koontz. Now I know why. I didn't dislike this book, but it creeped me out, and I'm hoping I won't be having nightmares after reading it. I could easily visualize this entire story as I was reading, so I'm thinking it could just as easily be made into a movie. I can see how it would appeal to fans of horror movies. I don't mind a good horror story now & then, but this one gave me my fill for a while.

I remember seeing this in the audio vbb and thinking it interesting, so when I see it again in the audio box I figure I will take it out and really give it a try. Not sure how "horror" it is, maybe I should give my imagination a vacation when I put this into the CD player.

I suppose it's a well written book as the author tells the story so vividly that, halfway through the listening, I took it out of my car audio and decided to listen to it at home instead, while doing house chores or exercising, so I won't be giving it as much attention. Usually it's the other way around, when a book is good I don't want to miss out the details.

I did think of abandoning the book, as, like indygo, I am not a horror fan. But the story crept on me, and I had to know what happens in the end, if anyone makes it out alive, even as I mentally made a list of which characters are likely more disposable.

As regards to the abridgement: I would say it's nicely done, as I don't feel missing out on anything and there isn't any "where did that come from" moments. And let me put it this way: I am glad it's abridged, this squeamish reader certainly can't stomach more than this.

This audiobook will now go into Carlissa's bookbox to look for its next victim to terrorize.
