Beloved -- JOIN THIS BOOKRAY!
12 journalers for this copy...
While I have seen the movie I have not read the book. I have heard plenty of good things about it though.
What’s a bookray and how does it work?
A bookray is when a book passes from person to person based on the list of members involved. Preferably a bookray book is never released into the wild.
To join this bookray (or any other bookray of mine) please private message me. I will be glad to add you to the list. New members are added all of the time so be sure to check the list of participants before you mail the book to the next in line just in case!
Once you are a bookray member you will receive the book from the person listed before you. When you receive the book please make a journal entry stating that you’ve received it. Then read it as soon as you can (no absolute hurry, just be reasonable please :o), and journal again with your thoughts. You’ll then need to private message the person on the list after you for their address. Mail the book by media mail (it’s cheaper!), and make release notes on the book only if you’d like to. Then sit back and watch the continuing journey!
The members are as follows:
colettem(England)
fflloorr (Portugal)
Xana (Portugal)
fio-dagua (Portugal)
pikapolonica (Sweden)

Wow. What a stunning book. Find it hard to imagine how a movie could do it justice, but I have to see it .......
Thank you pgsahm for sharing - this was such a powerful book, and really quite frightening - which was unexpected. I don't know how to begin to describe it - it's much more than a ghost story or any other description that comes close - you just have to experience it to understand it! I got a little lost at first, but it all came together as I got deeper into it. Will definitely read this again (when I feel strong enough to).
Off to Portugal as soon as I get fflloorr's address (lucky book).

While Fflloorr is reading a bookring book, she passed me this one. I had no idea what the book was about and had never heard about the author.
In the beginning I've found a bit hard to get into the story, but a few pages after I was already wondering about each characters story. Really good book, but not a "light read"! Thanks a lot Fflloorr for sharing this book with me and thx also to pgsahm for starting this bookray :)
Tomorrow the book will be again with Fflloorr .

I heard so much about this book that I had to read it. And I'm glad I did.
It's a very good but very, very sad. I must confess that, although not being that sensitive, I felt like crying when reading some passages of the book.
Thanks a lot Pgsahm for organising this ray.
Next stop: Xana.

Arrived today! I'm very curious about it!

I know that I already passed it along, but like one of Jane Austen's greatest character said "I must have my share in the conversation!".
Great book, great writer, great story. Didn't you find pure genius the way she introduced a character and in a few paragraphs made them have such depth? I remember for instance Ella and the way she compared all evil to the 2 men of her past, Mr. Bodwin and his father who thought life was the most important thing, Sixo and the Third-Mile woman, Stamp Paid and the blackberries.

Beloved has arrived to Stockholm, I'll start reading it over the weekend.
Update (6th Oct): I have to say, this is a slow read, much slower than I expected. Was reading it during the weekend and am about half way. The reasoning of the characters seems at points very far from my position and I needed to reread several passages to understand what exactly was going on.
Update (7th Oct): sorry, but I can't finish this book. :( It's difficult and it's frightening and it gave me a bad nightmare last night (that only ever happened with one other book as far as I can remember, The children from the ZOO station). I didn't expect this to be a scary ghost story, but it is and I can't finish it. Maybe I am just in a wrong mood right now. Anyway, the book goes on to the next participant this afternoon. Nikel27, I hope you will find it easier to read than I did.

Received in the mail today from Nikel27. Looking forward to reading it. This is my second bookray book!
2nd Book Read in 2004: The book started out very slow for me. Once Beloved's character was introduced into the story, then it got very interesting. Morrison is beautifully poetic and descriptive in her writing. There were many times that I got lost while I was reading, but found the ending extremely rewarding.
Update on release- 1/11/04: PhillyCarol already has book and SrapperMom has not responded to several of my PMs for nearly a week. Just PMd prozackat and hope to get a response. Hopefully, will send this book out in the world soon...

After reading all the postings on this book I am excited to begin reading this book. Hopefully my co-workers will not call in sick in the next few days and I can have time off to read this book. My husband will be away at work until late this week, so it will be just me and the cats which will be perfect for such a heavy book.
Wow, what a book. It took me a long time to finish the book because I was too busy to get into the book. I started it three times before I could finally have a day or two to really read each section. I could hardly believe the lifestyle these people went through. I thought my culture had it bad being first nations. At least I get my education paid for, medication and dental paid for as well. What do these people get in return? I can understand why they are angry people and very hostile to the rest of the world. I must rent the movie now and see how Hollywood portrays this.
I found it last night when I got home. Thanks a lot, I'm looking forward to reading it! :)

I finished reading it a while ago, and forgot to post here. I can't say this is my favorite type of story, I thought it would be different, with more action and less thinking :) But it's alright, it's important to read these books too.
I've posted it today to Chivers. Happy readings, Chivers! :)
