Bare Bones : A Novel
8 journalers for this copy...
Feisty forensic anthropologist Temperance (Tempe) Brennan is supposed to be on vacation, but body parts keep turning up. At the start of her sixth adventure, she's awaiting the arrival of her current flame, Quebecois sleuth Andrew Ryan, so she can head for the beach near her hometown of Charlotte, N.C. Before he shows up, she's called in to use her world-class forensics skills when a local janitor's infant granddaughter is found dead and charred in an oven. Then some strange, decomposing remains (" `Human?' `I'm not sure' ") are discovered by Brennan's dog during a barbecue at a local lakeside resort. Ryan finally arrives, but Brennan's vacation is indefinitely put on hold when a small plane crashes nearby. Two people are dead, and her expertise is required yet again ("The skull had suffered massive communitive fracturing on impact. The fire had done the rest"). Brennan eventually realizes that all three cases are linked to a drug-smuggling ring that also dabbles in poaching exotic animals. As she pursues her investigations, she is forced to work with "Skinny" Slidell, a redneck cop who rubs her the wrong way, but tension is defused by the presence of Ryan, who gamely gives up his vacation to pitch in. He matches Brennan quip for quip, and Tempe's dog, Boyd, provides extra comic relief. Reichs has built a reputation on cut-to-the-chase writing and swift plotting, and this latest effort delivers everything her fans have come to expect.
An enjoyable read... a real page-turner!!!

Just writing a note to let you know that I haven't forgot and the reading is in progress.
I've asked for Wandering-B's address and will send the book this weekend, or whenever I get the address. Sorry for the hold up. Will write more here when I send it.
ETA a note on my experience of the book
I had a hard time getting time to read during this period. I thought I would have time during chrismas but it wasn't near the amount I needed. As the book was a big hard cover I didn't easily put it in my bag to read on the train to work,
I found the book enjoyable, and although there were similarities with the tv-show, Bones, I think there were more things that differ. There were a lot of talk in the book, most of the story was brought forward through dialogues.
Thank you so much for letting me join the book ray. Again, I am sorry I took so long. I added some candy in the envelope to Wandering B. I probably would have anyway but now I hope it will sothe some of the irritation for having to wait for the book.

I never got back here to let you know the book was sent. It is in the mail on the way to Wandering-B and should arrive any day now. I am really really sorry for the delay of the book.
Received today. Thanks CollegeLady for sending this out as a ring and Elis-fromSweden for sending it (and some goodies as well) along to me. Will get to it soon.
I found this to be a fairly well written, interesting read. I will be looking for more books by this author! Thanks again to all for sharing. Am contacting spaceystacey for her address and will forward it on. BTW, there is a cute magnetic bookmark in the book. Am sending it along with the book, but if it's yours and you want it back, contact me soon, or spaceystacey.
Received in the post today and will be reading during the month of May. Thank you for sharing this read.
05/24/2009 Finished today at the pool. I just love this forensic style writing. Engrossing and fast-paced.
05/26/2009 received message from Ivylibra that she is too swamped at this time to accept the read. Contacted NMreader.

arrived safely - thank you
I thought an update might be appreciated. I hope to start the book today or tomorrow.
I thought I should share another update: My work load has been horrible this last little while and Friday 7/17 was a good example worked 5-4 took a 3 hour break and then worked 7-2. I thought I would have the book done last weekend but I will make sure it is done this weekend - I am at the half way point.
I enjoy the writing of Kathy Reichs.
I love the cotinuing relationship between Tempe and Ryan. I also enjoy the relationship between Tempe and her daughter.
I think the plot was well thought out and though complicated it is tied together nicely at the end.
