You're Only Old Once!
24 journalers for this copy...
This was a gift from my brother on my 30th birthday. ::sigh:: How depressing.
Maybe this should become a travelling book only to be released to BCers celebrating "landmark" birthdays.
I am turning this into a special "over-the-hill birthday" bookray. This book may only be released to BCers who are celebrating a major birthday, such as 30th or 40th and so on.
If you receive this book, first check the journal entries to see if there is a BCer who should be receiving it soon. If not, you may use your BC connections to try to locate another BC birthday celebrant sooner. Anybody expressing interest in receiving the book in the future should be listed in a journal entry so I can update the master list.
Any questions? Don't hesitate to send me a PM, and I will attempt to clarify. :-)
A few ground rules:
Only two "reservations" per month in order to ensure that participants will be able to receive the book during their birthday month.
International participants welcome, so don't be surprised if you have to ship to another country.

This book brought so many smiles to my face!
My first Dr Seuss
My first catch
My first parcel from the USA
How exciting. It even diminshed the pain of having turned 30
Thanks Stinalyn for such a great Bookray. I'll be getting in touch with next month's candidates today to pass it on.
Thanks Stinalyn! I am sending this on to moogytee tomorrow
The over-the-hill bookray has arrived, just in time for my 30th birthday! Thanks romee-jo and stinalyn. Romee-jo, I loved the card and put it on my kitchen windowsill.
I am feeling optimistic about my 30s ... everyone keeps telling me they're better than the 20s. As my father-in-law says, "Getting older is better than the alternative."
This book will be headed off to myntti on Friday.
It was great to find this book waiting for me after a not-so-good day at work. Thanks to stinalyn for starting this "over-the-hill-birthday" bookray. And thank you for the card, moogytee!
"You're Only Old Once" is now on its way to July's birthday celebrants. I mailed the book to Mojosmom today. Happy Birthday!
I wish I could travel as far and as often as this book! From Missouri to England to California to Finland to Illinois - and Texas is next. I will read it quickly so as to make sure TexasWren gets it in time for her big day.
This will make you laugh, no matter how old you are! It is now on its way to TexasWren, along with a birthday surprise!
And a lovely surprise it is too.
This is such a fun bookray. I am going to post it in the forums, since it appears there are no August events. Thanks for sharing this.
This was such a cute book! I read it aloud to Johnnie, since he also has a birthday this month. I had to keep stopping at the Insolvency test--it's hard to read Dr. Suess when you're giggling!
It is going to Mamikaem, and, continuing Mojosmom's sweet surprise, I have included a surprise for her.
Just received this from TexasWren. I love the card with the cute magnet (which is already hanging on my refrigerator!) THANKS! I turn 40 on August 13th and am actually looking forward to it, despite all the teasing I'm already getting! And to Stinalyn and the rest of you 30-year-olds, you're just spring chickens! ;o)
My daughters will also have birthdays in August (turning 11 and 8) and they have managed to get this book away from me even before I've had a chance to make a journal entry. I will read it and send it on to the next birthday "kid" on the list!
I found this (and another book from Mamikaem - what a lovely surprise!)in an envelope resting in the shade of my front porch. Evidently the package was too much for my poor mailbox (it's getting older too, you know). Luckily, the book and its companion are resting comfortably on my desk now, awaiting a reading on Saturday for my birthday. Thank you so much for including me in this wonderful birthday bookray celebration!
I read this today (my birthday), and as I squirmed on the couch to try to make my aching legs comfortable (we walked and walked and walked at the state fair yesterday), I found myself laughing in recognition at what the patient was going through. I've already been through many of the tests described in this book (slightly modified for a non-Seussian human, of course). Does that mean I'm cautious or just that I'm falling apart already? I feel fine for a decrepit person. ;-)
Thanks for sharing this fun little book! I'll pass it on to mngirl soon.
I received this book today as part of the Milestone Birthday bookray just a few minutes ago! Can't wait to read it! Since there is no one scheduled to receive it until November, I'll make a post in the Wish List forum for some new participants (1 for September and 2 in October). I will do my best to pass it on before November comes along.
Rendiru sent along a birthday gift for me also. A CD of Neal & Leandra. She saw in my profile that I like a variety of music. I had never heard of them and cannot wait to listen to it.
Thank you Rendiru!
Oops! I meant I'll post it in the Bookray/rings forum I just opened the CD and see that it was recorded right here in St. Paul, Minnesota and that their address is in Minneapolis! Wow! Now I'm even more excited to listen to this CD!
An update:
Well, I've just posted the 3rd message in the bookray forum looking for another September and 2 October birthdays for this bookray. So far I've had no responses (well, one response did come, but her birthday is in October 2004 and her name already was on the list here, although not on the list with the book-- I added it to this list). I may end up keeping this book until November. I really hope not!
Since September only has 10 more days, the next message I post, later this week, will be for October birthdays only. I think I'm going to have to post a message every few days, instead of every other week, like I've done in the past.
I found another September birthday! I'll get the book in the mail on Monday. I also received a PM today for someone later down the line. Here are the two new additions to our bookray:
September 2003....wordfried
As always, Just love Mr. Geisel's books! -Will have to take a second look at the fish at my next Dr.'s visit.....if I dare to go...after reading this. :)
Thanks, stinalyn, for the great bookring!
MNgirl-got the book today and have enjoyed it with my family already. Loved the extras as well-love asian art and will use the bookmark for a journal I use, my family oohed and ahhed over the cute puppy and kitten calendar; Thanks for helping to make this milestone an easier one to turn!
BTW-I got a PM from Fantasma for October 2004 milestone birthday. I've added her to the list that is traveling with the book. Looks like October 2004 is full.
Still no takers for October 2003. I will PM bayouposte and phillycarol so they can get it for November, 2003. -Wordfried
**UPDATE: MAILED TO hoopsmom02 for Dec 2003 milestone birthday!-Wordfried
The "over the hill" bookray arrived last week. Thank you for the great gift wordfried! This is a great bookray- love Dr. Seuss. Thanks for starting the bookray, stinalyn. I'm celebrating by 40th on Christmas Day. Yikes! As if that weren't enough, my hubby & I are celebraing our 15th anniversary on 12/23, hubby's b-day is New Year's Eve (it's not a milestone) & our son will turn 14 on Russian Christmas-Jan.1. Looks like this book will be going to kiptrix in February.
Wishing everyone a happy holiday season and a healthy, Happy New Year!

CAUGHT IN MESHOPPEN PA USA
Opps... just realized my previous journal entry for the book was logged as an anonymous finder becasue I hadn't logged in. Duh!!! I the memory is the first to go when you hit 40!

This was in my pile of mail when I returned today from a trip to the lovely Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC. (The visit was a birthday gift from my daughters.) I'll read it later this evening, and try to drum up some new recruits for the list; 2004 looks pretty empty between March and September. Thanks for the nice surprise, hoopsmom02!
This book is a hoot! "We'll study your symptoms. We'll give you a call. In the meantime, go back and sit down in the hall." That about says it all! This will soon be traveling on to the next person, after I receive an address. My forum post has resulted in quite a few new participants, so it's worth it to occasionally remind BCers of its existence (in the Book Ray forum). Thanks, Stinalyn, cool idea!
This book is now on its way to TBlack44 in NC. Happy Birthday!
I received this book in the mail yesterday and it is such a hoot!! It will be passed along to the next person as soon as I get their address!!!
Well, my birthday month and countdown to the big 4-0 srart tomorrow (March 1), so this has arrived just in time! Thanks to stinalyn for starting the bookray and to TBlack44 for sending the book (and the lovely little surprise too!). I've flipped through it a bit and will sit down to read it soon - I've always loved Dr. Seuss!
It's not "The Cat in the Hat," but this was still a lot of fun and a great idea for a bookray! Also, it reminded me that I'm not quite that old yet :->.
Sent out to Dolores69 on Saturday - Happy Birthday to you!
Nice Surprise! My first bookring! I celebrated the Big One in Fl. this year.
If you think 30 is bad, try 70 :-)
Thanks to BookCookie39 and Stinalyn
Will be sent to Cytronella soon.
Who knew 45 would bring such treats? Arrived today and I'm going to enjoy it (with my husband . . . we are having mirror birthdays this year, as I'll be 45 and 6 days later he turns 54!)
WooHoo!! Happy birthday to me!
What fun!! This was waiting outside my door when I got home from work today!! cytronella you are soooo very sneaky...pm'ing me for address to send boxtops to, when this was to be included!! :o) What a nice surprise. The magnet was very cute...I'm still chuckling over it!
"Why is a birthday cake the only food you can blow on and spit on and everybody rushes to get a piece?"
~Bobby Kelton
My son loves the coloring book & the boxtops -- his eyes got as big as saucers when he saw that this was included for him!! And now, he and I are going to sit down to read my "birthday book"!! Yea!!
Thanks stinalyn for this great idea -- it really made my month!! :o)
Thank-you so much for including me in this!! It was great fun!! I mailed this off this afternoon to the next recipient...I forgot to include the list of b-days/participants, so I will get that off in the mail separately tomorrow. Sorry for the slight delay in getting this back on the road...summer life just took over for a bit...oh for a birthday in the "slower" winter months!! :o)
Happy Birthday to all!! :o) Enjoy!!
This showed up on Saturday and my birthday (40th - ouch!) was Sunday...perfect timing! I have to say that I came away from my last annual check-up with a stack of slips from my primary to go and have this and that "checked out", so this was a really appropriate book for me, this year. Sigh.
Eriko1908 also sent me a bookmark (adorable cat!) and a little book - thanks so much!!
Sent on to AmberLee17
Oh me, oh my! I thought I journaled this book when I received it. Sorry all.
Today is my 50th birthday and some of the verses really hit home -- some had me wincing, and still others laughing aloud. It's off in the mail today with a bit of company in the envelope.
Sorry about the delay. I got the next address this Wednesday, and it's winging it's way across the Irish Sea right now (or it should be). Sometimes things glitch when you travel...
Received today - what a lovely surprise, and thanks for the card too! Well, they say life begins at 40 but that was 2 weeks ago and nothing's happened yet! Maybe I should wait a little longer...
Anyway, it's a fab book - really made me smile. Soon to be off on it's travels again.
Unfortunately no response from marianfrench, so I'm currently waiiting for fantasma's address.

Whoops - thought I had posted this prior to going on holiday!
Thank you very much for this - I had forgotten about this bookray so it was a lovely surprise. I just loved the part about taking all the pills, that really made me chuckle. I have added a few names to the sheet for 2005, Jalna - January (sorry January is a bit busy so I have allocated one of the March slots), BookGroupMan - June, torialouise - July and FiBe - September. The book will be off to Fantasma in Portugal tomorrow.
Marian
Got it todat in the mail!!
A little bit late, maybe to remind me that I turned thirty, sniff!!!
Thanks MarianFrench!!
I must admit I was expecting a little more of the book...
It is funny but nothing extraordinary. Or maybe I'm still too young to understand it!! ;o)
I'm glad I'm still 30 and don't have to go through all that =)
Thanks anyway, stinalyn! It's always a pleasure to read such a travelled book.
PMed RoryG for address!!
Updated 24/11/2004 - RoryG asked to be skiped from the ring. PMed gumshoe007.

I received this in the mail a few days before my 30th birthday!!! Perfect timing.
So far, 30 has been great. I threw a huge party at the bistro lounge bar where I work and it was fantastic. Lots of food, cake, drinks, and champagne. I'll be reading this book and sending it on shortly. Thanks stinalyn!!
