6 out of 10

Wow I have had this book a long time :( Well, I am kind of mixed on this one - there were some things I liked and some I did not ... the plot seemed overly complicated, sometimes sacrilegious and the ending ill-conceived. All the characters had personality flaws to the extent that one almost felt most sympathetic for the murderer. I did think that the author had quite a way with words and could really turn a phrase well and there were even bits of humor, which helped me keep reading. Not sure what else to say about this book now that I've given it a lukewarm review!

7 out of 10

Finally read this a couple of weeks ago (trying hard~and not always succeeding~to get the long-waiting tbrs read before the new, newly exciting books), Anyway, I seem to have liked it better than dancing-dog. Yes, the ending was contrived. Deus ex machina. But the phrases do indeed turn well, I did enjoy the humour, I liked that the characters were flawed~that makes them more real, and I appreciated the twists and turns of the plot. I could do with a little less of Punch's sexist violence, but then, he wouldn't be Punch :) And I can always do with less sexism.
I did not find it sacrilegious, rather I found the set-up it to be on the ingenious side. At the very least, unusual :)

somewhere along the line, it looks like someones pup got in a little chew on the corner of the back cover. Not much, certainly nothing that interferes with reading it.
