I bought this book at Target while on a holiday in New York. I LOVE how books are cheaper in the US compared to the Netherlands, and I bought a whole bunch of books during my trip. :D

My bookclub chose this book to read this month, so I got to reading it a lot quicker than I expected.

I finished reading this book this morning and really liked it. It was a lot different than I expected, but I think that's mostly because I know the musical soundtrack very well and that seems to be an entirely different story, very loosely based on the book. The book goes much deeper into the political situation in Oz and talks much less about the relationship between Glinda and Elphaba.

I liked the book because it offers such a solid, believable background to the life of Elphaba, though it doesn't explain as much as the musical does how she came to be wicked. It leaves more to your own interpretation, though I don't think that's a bad thing. It's just different, I guess. :D Whereas I had to struggle my way through another one of Maguire's books ("Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister"), this one I breezed through, despite the complicated story.

I'm going to put this book in my permanent collection for a while, as I am pretty sure I want to read it again, just to get even deeper into the story. This time I read it really fast as I wanted to know what was going to happen - kind of odd when you realize you already know what's going to happen in the end!
