Don't panic! In clearing up the database, we came across this book you tried to register a while back when our server was acting up. This BCID got hidden away in cyberspace and might not be associated correctly with the book you see listed here. Or, you may have realized that the BCID didn't show up on your shelf and re-registered the book. Either way, we wanted you to be able to track the book should it ever check in again, so we've re-added it to your shelf. If you know that this BCID is out in the world in a copy of the book, you don't have to do a thing-- just smile and wait for the book to write home. If you know that you re-registered this title with a different BCID (because of an error from our server when you were trying to register the book) then feel free to recycle this BCID by clicking on the edit book details link and re-assigning it to another book.

This book returned in the Wrap it Up Bookbox #2, I have not read this one before. Thanks for including it and I am looking forward to reading it and then passing it on.
Amazon Editorial Review
A treasure worth killing for. Sam Spade, a slightly shopworn private eye with his own solitary code of ethics. A perfumed grafter named Joel Cairo, a fat man name Gutman, and Brigid O’Shaughnessy, a beautiful and treacherous woman whose loyalties shift at the drop of a dime. These are the ingredients of Dashiell Hammett’s coolly glittering gem of detective fiction, a novel that has haunted three generations of readers.

Thanks for sending this from Bookstogive's General Literature VBB. It's a classic, and I am looking forward to reading it! Thanks for hosting this VBB!
My Review: I enjoyed this book. It's written in a completely different time, so it's interesting to read, it's like taking a trip on a time machine. I had to look up "swart", it's a term that means dark. As in, "the swart man". I had seen the movie: The Maltese Falcon (1941), so I kind of already knew what was going to happen. It was fun to read the book, though.
I'm going to see if Lumbermoose wants to read this. If not, I'll probably put it in a bookbox.

Thanks for sharing! I can't believe that I have never read this book. What a great read. It's hard to believe that this was written in 1929. You can definitely see where some of the modern day mystery thriller authors get their influences from.
This book is starting out in JennyC1230's Mystery Bookbox.
I am snagging this book from the mystery bookbox. It was once my original book and I need it for the tag game! Glad to see it return :)
Releasing as part of the Wishlist Tag Game, enjoy!

Picked this up from the Post Office today. It was mailed to my old address and apparently the USPS doesn't forward Media Mail for free :(
Anyway, thank you, bookstogive, for tagging me with this one! I'm not sure when I'll get it read, as I keep tagging other people with other TBR books, but it's safe on the teetering Mt. TBR until then.
Thanks again!

I very much enjoyed the fast pace and quick banter of this novel, and could not help envisioning Bogart, Lorre, and Greenstreet while I was reading about Spade, Cairo, and Gutman. It has been a while since I saw the movie, but the book felt very familiar, and now that I see Hammett also wrote the screenplay for the movie, I see why.
Lots of fun!
Thank you again, bookstogive, for sending this one my way!
