After an interesting conversation at the last bookcrossing meeting about Austen, I found this little number in the withdrawn bestsellers at the public library. Will read and release at the next bookcrossing meeting.

Picked up at the meetup with the Wellington bookcrossers (great to meet you, newgirl360!), and read over the next couple of days.

It was a lot better than I expected from what I'd heard of the movie. Light and fluffy, yes, but not entirely the bland "chick-lit" I'd feared. I enjoyed particularly the way the chapters mirrored the structures of Austen's novels (even though the execution was a little clumsy at times), and the happily ever after was so satisfyingly Austenish.

I'm still left wondering, though - who was the narrator?

Okay, I've never read Jane Austen, never seen any of her books as movie or TV versions. I did like the book although I was also confused about the narration.

I'm still not planning on reading Jane Austen but I might look out Ursula Le Guin one of these days thanks to Grigg reminding me what others have said.
