When I Am an Old Woman I Shall Wear Purple
2 journalers for this copy...
Picked up at a garage sale at a church today. As my nine year old son pointed out, "all of the books here are SO OLD!" True enough, this was one of 2 or 3 that had been published after 1985 (or so it seemed!)
This title feels so familiar to me, and I can't wait to read it, to figure out why!
Generally not a poetry reader, only did it for grades in college lit. courses, but really looking forward to reading the wise words of these women.

What a lovely book. I'm so glad I engaged in it! Truth be told, I'm not much of a lover of poetry, or even an enjoyer, but these shorts and poems really touched at something very real for this 41 year old woman.... aging.
My favorites (by far) are the first and last.
Sending this book along as part of a trade.
I hope this book passes through the hands of many a strong and beautiful women!

Received today. Thank you so much! I am looking forward to this one and hope that I am able to get to it sooner rather than later. Many thanks once again!
I actually found this collection a bit more depressing than I thought I might. I was hoping for some more uplifting selections on women and aging, although there were some. The black and white photographs that were included throughout the book were a lovely addition. Since I enjoy poetry and short prose pieces, the format worked well for me.
My favorite pieces were "Warning" (the first poem in the anthology whose first line is also the book title), "Near Places, Far Places," "Birthday Portrait in Muted Tones," "New Directions," "Late Autumn Woods," "Two Willow Chairs," "Endurance," and "Out of the Lion's Belly."
