Show Me The Sky

Not released until 5 June 2008. This is an uncorrected proof copy.
Time is running out for James Dent. On the trail of missing singer Billy K, his team has exhausted every lead. The investigation has cost Dent his marriage, his home and possibly his job. All he has left is his instinct, and a copy of `Show Me the Sky' - the book Billy was reading when he vanished.
With only the clothes on his back and £5,000 in his wallet, Dent himself disappears. He believes he can solve this case alone. He can have little idea where this journey will take him. From the love letter of a motorcyclist stranded in central Australia, to the back streets and brothels of Mombasa, Dent begins to wonder if he is trailing a man, a ghost or himself.
Mystery, adventure, historical voyage, and journey of discovery - Show Me the Sky is all this and more. It is a dazzling novel about the power of books to change lives, which will keep you guessing until the final page.
This book is split over anumber of narratives. There is a regular first person story of Jimk Dent; the journal of Nelson Babbage a Fijian who is returning to Fiji from London with a group of Missionaries; a letter from Cal, a motorcyclist who has crashed in the Australian wilderness; a thrid person story about a young runaway and a series of "articles" anbout Billy K.

What a great book! Apart from a small criticism concerning one of the narratives, see below, this book worked really well for me. I particularly liked the first person narrative of Jim Dent.
I did get a bit fed up with the "Show Me The Sky" journal. I knew that something important would happen (the clues were fairly obvious) but I wished he would hurry up a little. The other narratives were great and they keep me turning the pages.

I offered this as bookring but didn't get much response so I think it will now be a bookray.

Arrived yesterday. Next to be read
Looking at this i did wonder what i had let myself in for. As a preview copy there is no synopsis on the cover so I started reading it blind. Much to my surprise i really enjoyed it and flew through it. the three storylines intertwined well although I found the third one a bit boring in parts. I would recomend this book to anyone though

Thanks tagesmann and dodau, the book arrived safely in today's post. I have two others to read first but that shouldn't cause too much of a delay and then I will see if I can find another taker.
I enjoyed this book very much. The opening pages and the writing style immediately involved me, particularly the narrative by Dent. I realise this is an uncorrected proof copy, but does that mean all the editing is finished? I really felt it needed more pruning, particularly in Babbage’s journal; this could have been shortened without any significant loss to the narrative and personally I would have liked a little more detail near the end relating to certain parties ending up in Terra Incognita. (Trying to avoid spoilers) I felt it was an adventurous and complicated story for a first novel, which was carried off well and would be very happy to read more by this new writer.
Thanks tagesmann for including me.

I also thought that Babbage's journal could have been edited as, although it was interesting, it was too long. And more detail at the end would have been useful but, perhaps, difficult to pull off?
