Went to a Rotary Book Sale this morning determined not to buy lots of books. What happened? Only bought 29! Was selective; either a good author, a NZ writer, interesting synopsis and clean.
Why this one?

Mainly interesting synopsis and very clean.

"Years back, before his spell in prison, before he bought the hotel outside Barcelona, Carlos had been a hunted man, activist in ETA, the Basque Independence Movement, and involved in clandestinity and violence for the good of the Cause. So what is a responsible hotelier doing back once more in the old game? The fact is, after another ETA bomb outrage, the police are out in force hunting for two escaped gunmen, a man and a woman, and Carlos has accepted to hide them in his hotel. This is while the 1982 World Cup is being playing Barcelona and the police are swarming all over the hotel to protect the Polish team that is staying there."

This was not a scenario that I was at all familiar with. At first I found the book heavy going but as the story developed it became more and more intriguing Carlos is very introspective and has two totally different characters lurking in his head. They talk to him all the time giving him frequently conflicting advice.

Very interesting.

I have been trying to clear the bookshelf at my sons where my possessions are stored. This has been stored for too long. I have spent this week trying to read but 100+ pages in and I am just not engaged so off to the book exchange shelf at work.

Didn't get round to reading it and need to reduce TBR mountain. Will take it to release as part of the Bookcrossing Unconvention in Hobart, Tasmania this weekend.

Found at Mona in Hobart while on holidays. Travelled back to Gold Coast Queensland with me so I could give it to my dad to read (not my kind of thing). Hope the next person enjoys their find.
