London 1862. Sue Trinder, orphaned at birth, grows up among petty thieves - fingersmiths - under the rough but loving care of Mrs Sucksby and her 'family'. But from the moment she draws breather, Sue's fate is linked to that of another orphan growing up in a gloomy mansion not too many miles away.

Thank you so much! I've really been wanting to read this book, and now here it is as part of the Southern Cross Book Exchange. I'm so thrilled, and I really look forward to reading it.

Wow, I loved this book so much -- particularly the point at which we realised we'd been double bluffed. I didn't see that coming. Then more! It was very melodramatic, but I think that was intentional, and probably parodying books of the era. I can't say more, as I want to pass this book on, as I think it's great! I can't believe I took so long to get to it. Shows how high my TBR is!
