Peter Høeg has written a fantastic story about Smilla Jaspersen.

The blurb says:
"One winter evening the neighbour's sixyear-old boy falls to his death from the apartement roof in Copenhagen. Accidental death, say the police. But Smilla Jaspersen, a resourceful, tenacious and bloody-minded Greenlander, knows the boy well; moreover she has a feeling for snow - and those last footprints tell her a tale... Her investigation starts in Denmark and leads to the Artic ice cap as Smilla doggedly homes in om her quarry."

Haugtussa sent this over from Norway and arrived in New Zealand a long time ago. I have brought this book to Perth, Western Australia and will have it read by the weekend.

This book arrived many years ago to me in New Zealand kindly sent over from Norway by Haugtussa. I have finally read the book whilst I was in Scarborough, Perth in Western Australia on holiday. Miss Smilla is not an easy read but a very rewarding one. The plot is filled with various ramblings on philosophy, ice formations and the post-colonialism period that has affected Greenland and Denmark. It is a terrific story and I suspect that it will turn out not as you expected. I will now release this book somewhere by Scarborough beach where it is in the height of summer and full of visitors from the city and beyond. Let's hope this book continues its amazing journey onwards to other parts of the world.
