Book cover: “Introducing Alex Mavros – the new name in crime fiction. The idyllic Greek island of Trigono harbours many secrets. Its labyrinth of caves contains priceless ancient figurines. Once sanctuary to tragic lovers during the Second World War, the caves are now the backdrop to act of chilling depravity. American tourist Rosa Ozal has disappeared and half-Greek, half-Scots investigator Alex Mavros is hired to trace her. In a race to stop a terrible crime being repeated, Mavros must break through Trigono white-washed walls of silence to uncover the deadly consequences of a feud that has plagued the island for generations.

A real flavour of Greece permeates the robust background setting for this adventure, an insular island community, its economy, once based on fishing and agriculture and now pivoting on tourism though fishing is still important. Here long-established attitudes of conservatism still influence peoples actions and echoes of WWII history remain heavy in many peoples memories. There’s lots of different plot threads going on which keeps the action moving speedily and though I was happy to be surprised by some of the resolutions I never entirely engaged with Johnston’s characters.

Spring 2008 and I am on a mission to re-claim my flat, re-create a feeling of *space & peace* and, simply… find my carpet again! I am being prompted by good friends to just “GO FOR IT” and simply release – gulp – un-read or read as many of my “fascinating books” as I can. This then is one of these books, please enjoy it and, let me know what you thought.

Welcome to Bookcrossing.
