Synopsis
A novel set in India during the Emergency, by the author of "Such a Long Journey". In the tiny flat of the widowed Dina Dalal, two tailors and a young student struggle to put together a new life of sorts amid the crisis, and in the course of doing so encounter a vivid cast of characters.

I actually ordered you a book from your wishlist and then was told someone else had picked that one out for you. I had ordered this book at the same time, I read it as part of a ring this month and loved it so much decided to order a copy for myself. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did, I was going to add my journal entry but there's too many spoilers.

Although not my birthday until the 16th, I opened this BCUK Extra Birthday Exchange package today and out plopped another book from the 1001 list. Thanks so much marie-therese ~ I hope you're enjoying a birthday month bookfest too!
Why oh why has it taken me so long to read this well-written, delightful, insightful, moving, yet bittersweet story?
It is one of those books that will stay with me forever and is well-deserving of a 10/10 score.
