from friends of the library book cart. Pleasantly surprised. This book was originally written in Italian in 1976 and translated to English in 1999. Although labeled as fiction, it seems very autobiographical. Sparse (at only 117 pages), it's the story of a poor Italian girl who emigrates to Canada, pregnant with her fiance's child, only to find that during her trip to Canada, he impregnated a Canadian-Italian and married her instead. She gives up the child, never seeing it or knowing if it's a boy or girl, meets a friendly Italian family and by proxy, marries an Italian from a distant part of Italy who wants to emigrate to Canada. Together, they build a life in Canada & have two children. But she's drawn back to her hometown & in the end after her husband dies, goes back to her Italian hometown to live out the rest of her life with her sister & brother-in-law.
Will RABCK to hakkalina as a surprise, since her RABCK book has a tiny bit more room in it.

I got it! :) It is real suprised, as I wrote it in HERE . I haven't heard of this book yet, so it is a real suprise in every respect :)) It is a "new" book, was printed in 1999, but somehow it seems to be older. The longitudinal edge of its pages are interesting, like this /\/\, I wonder it is an original, or somebody had a good time :)
Yesterday I was so sad, as I was strolling on my bookshelves, this book came to me, its title, its cover grabbed my attention... so I started to read it... This is so beautiful. My heart is aching. I also would need a bench to sit down and rest. Where is mine to sit down and rest in calm, with peace in my heart? I am still looking for it...
I release this book as a "surprise book" on the occasion of Apolonia'x ' postcard ray, the lucky winner is Smurphie! Have a nice reading to you!
Arrivd this morning looking forward to reading it.
