King of the Wind: The Story of the Godolphin Arabian
2 journalers for this copy...
Newbery Medal Winner for 1949. Illustrations by Wesley Dennis.
Starts with the famous 1920 race between Sir Barton and Man o' War - there are clips of part of the race out there on the web if you do a search.
From the sound of it, Man o' War's famous grandsire (the "Godolphin Arabian") caused a dramatic change in horse racing and breeding in Europe & America, so it's interesting to read this account of the life of the "father of the turf".
I do wonder if this author (Sea Star, Misty of Chincoteague, etc.) wrote any books that weren't about horses...
Other copies on my BookCrossing shelf: 11980616 • 15518150
Edit 2013: I'm pretty sure this isn't the right cover, but I like it much better than the generic "no cover image".
