LeishaCamden's taken the liberty of reading this while it's in her possession ... :-) May 4th through 9th.
This was a very quick read - short, only 200 pages, with very short chapters - but the reader has to pay attention as the plot is very jumpy and as it's written in a very 'spoken word' style and as kind of stream of consciousness. I found it a little hard to keep track of the characters. And the main character seems a little demented - although that's not really to be wondered at, considering ...
The descriptions of 1970/60s Ireland and the sectarian violence felt very authentic. Tragic.
All in all I didn't really fall for this book but it was an interesting read. I'm really looking forward to seeing the movie now - I have it on DVD somewhere but I haven't watched it yet. I will be sure to do that now - will be interesting as I can't quite picture how they will have altered it to fit the different medium ...
