Synopsis
In 1999, Tobias Jones emigrated to Italy, expecting to discover the pastoral bliss described by centuries of foreign visitors. Instead, he discovered a very different country, besieged by unfathomable terrorism and deep-seated paranoia, where crime is scarcely ever met with punishment. "The Dark Heart of Italy" is Jones' account of his three-year voyage across the Italian peninsula.

About the Author
Tobias Jones studied at Jesus College, Oxford. He was on the staff of the London Review of Books and of the Independent on Sunday before moving, in 1999, to Parma. The Dark Heart of Italy is his first book

Kiitos! Tänään tipahti postiluukusta. Kannessa Berlusconi, kirja on epäilemättä mielenkiintoinen :D

Well well... After reading this, I'm not surprised about the economic situation in Italy. News from recent months makes some sense. This book provides a new (though not unexpected) perspective to the country. Mostly one reads of the beauties of the country, history, food etc but the author here shows to a reader a whole another side of Italy, the darker one. It covers politics quite a lot though what else can be expected, there's alot to be said.

While reading this I started thinking, unlike before, that I've no interest whatsoever to travel to Italy. Some part of me wished I never started reading this book. I wanted to keep an illusion of Italy as it's been portrayed. This book is not an easy read as it's not fiction. Facts are so much more heavier to read.

I recommend this to everyone who's interested enough to dive into another side of Italy and it's society.
