First line: "I always get the shakes before a drop."
A classic coming-of-age story disguised as a fast-moving adventure. Has Heinlein's trademark philosphical and political asides, including mini-lectures on what we now call "street smarts." About the nature of violent action, duty, and responsibility. Well written. Not the self-indulgent Heinlein of later years. Recommended to anyone.

Good book. One of my all-time favourites. The movie and the cover are _very_ misleading - not a sci-fi shoot-'em-up, but a coming-of-age book with ruminations on politics, society, and public morality. By the way, some people have thought the society Heinlein writes about is his utopia; it's clear from his other books that it was just an idea to work with.
